Indications
Prevention of folate deficiency in women before conception and during early pregnancy to reduce the risk of neural tube defects in offspring
Action
Folic acid, the active substance of the drug Folik, is a vitamin from the B group. Pregnant and breastfeeding women have an increased need for folic acid. It is practically impossible to meet the increased demand solely through diet. Deficiencies of folic acid during this period can lead to the development of congenital defects of the central nervous system and face in the newborn. Experts recommend that all women increase their intake of folic acid for at least 1 month before the expected conception and in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. In conditions of increased demand, diet may be an insufficient source of folic acid
Dosage
The usual dose of Folik is 1 tablet (0.4 mg folic acid) once daily, at least one month before conception and during the first trimester (first 3 months) of pregnancy.
