What Is Uralyt‑U?

Uralit‑U (also branded Uralyt‑U) is a pharmaceutical-grade potassium-sodium hydrogen citrate compound provided as orange-flavored granules in a 280 g jar. The active portion is citric acid + potassium citrate + sodium citrate (~2.4 g per 2.5 g scoop) designed to alkalinize urine and dissolve/prevent uric acid and mixed urinary stones.

Indications

Uralyt‑U is indicated for:

Dissolution of uric acid kidney stones

Prevention of recurrence in uric acid, cystine, calcium oxalate/calcium phosphate stones

Urine alkalinization during uricosuric therapy, cytostatic (chemotherapy), porphyria cutanea tarda or hyperuricosuria

How Uralit‑U Works

The citrate ions raise urinary pH into a therapeutic window (typically pH 6.2–6.8, or higher for special cases), enhancing uric acid solubility and inhibiting calcium crystal formation. Excess citrate also binds calcium, reducing stone formation risk.

Dosage & Administration

1. Measure pH before each dose using supplied indicator paper and chart.

2. Dissolve granules in water or juice after meals.

3. Standard dose: ~4 scoopfuls/day (~10 g), divided into:

Morning: 1 scoop (2.5 g)

Midday: 1 scoop

Evening: 2 scoops (usually around 10 p.m.)

4. Adjust evening intake by ± ½ scoop based on pH readings:

If pH < 6.2 → increase dose

If pH > 6.8 → decrease dose

5. For calcium stone prevention, a single evening dose of 2–3 scoops (5–7.5 g) may suffice, adjusted to maintain pH around 7.0.

Safety & Precautions

Contraindications: renal or heart failure, hyperkalemia, metabolic alkalosis, urea-splitting infections, low-sodium diets, hereditary muscle weakness (adynamia episodica), allergy to ingredients, use of potassium-sparing drugs, age < 12 years.

Electrolyte monitoring recommended (especially serum potassium, sodium, renal function, acid‑base status).

Patients on antihypertensives, diuretics, NSAIDs, ACE inhibitors, etc., should use caution to avoid hyperkalemia.

May interact with quinolone antibiotics (reduce solubility), aluminum-containing antacids (aluminum absorption), salicylates, methenamine formulations, and cardioglycosides.

Contains the coloring agent E110 (orange yellow S)—may cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.

Pregnancy & breastfeeding: Limited human data; consult a physician prior to use.

Duration of Therapy

Renal stone dissolution: Usually 1–6 months, with daily pH monitoring and dose adjustments.

Metaphylaxis (stone prevention): Longer-term maintenance using lower doses (5–7.5 g nightly), periodic pH checks recommended.

Expected Benefits

Achieves urinary pH control, enhancing solubility of uric acid and preventing formation of new stones.

May support natural expulsion of small stones and reduce recurrence when combined with hydration and diet.

Evidence shows combination with tamsulosin significantly increases stone expulsion rates, particularly for distal ureteral stones.

Summary

Uralyt‑U 280 g granules offer effective citrate therapy for kidney stone dissolution and prevention. Using flexible dosing guided by urinary pH testing, it helps maintain a urinary environment less conducive to urate and calcium stone development. Always follow dosing instructions carefully, monitor electrolytes and kidney function, and avoid use in contraindicated conditions.m
